NeurOp, Inc. is a preclinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing new medicines to treat central nervous system disorders, including major depression, neuropathic pain and ischemia. Founded in 2002 by three scientists – including Raymond Dingledine and Dr. Stephen Traynelis of Emory University’s pharmacology department – the company is focused on developing a new generation of N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor blockers, which inhibit proteins that play an important role in neuron signaling.
Up until now, most NMDA receptor blockers didn’t get beyond clinical development as a result of adverse side effects at the required dose levels. The compounds developed by NeurOp appear to offer therapeutic effects with minimal side effects.
